Why I Am Starting The Hashtag #backcareeverywhere

I have been busy. Really busy. Back care isn’t necessarily the first thing on my mind on any given day. But it needs to be. I have to make it a priority in order to maintain proper back care and overall functioning in life really. […]

3 Month Update Online Home Practice Series for Scoliosis: Making Space for Practice

My apologies for missing the 2 month update on the Online Home Practice Series for Scoliosis by Rachel Jesien, hence here is the 3 month update. I have had to make some space for my practice. In different ways. Let me explain.

Making Space for Practice

Basically a lot of other things were happening which meant I didn’t find that much focus for my home practice. I did do my home practice every morning. But sometimes it just consisted of the Chair Savasana.

Truly my favorite resting pose 🙏 In this fast paced world it sometimes feels we are not allowed to rest, or probably even worst we are expected to rest certain way. I had to find the pose that gave me the most relaxation and take the responsibility to make time for my mind and body to rest. Still work in progress. But awareness is always the best place to start at anything 🙏💛✨ Did you check out my blog post 'Rest'? #rest #relaxation #scoliyogi #yogaeveryday #yogaforscoliosis #scoliosis #bentnotbroken #scoliosisprobs #scoliosisawareness #scoliosissupport #balance #asana #rugpijn #yogaamsterdam #igyogafam #yogisofinstagram #yogaathome #instayoga #fitshe #fitfam #flexibility #namaste

I think I was super busy and prided myself with even fitting in any type of home practice. Actually this served as an excuses for me than as a legit reason. Because, usually when I don’t feel I have the time, I need it the most. And most of all, I didn’t make any progress, while my body totally needs a lot more coordination and strengthening training. If I want progress, I need to work for it. Put in the time. By acknowledging this narrative that had formed in my mind, I found the space in time for my practice.

Making Space for Practice

I want to share this story with you. Because I can sometimes feel unmotivated by everyone sharing their perfect picture or just an end result. And I know I can be guilty of that as well. We all are. I guess, it makes sense. Don’t we all want to share the achievements we are proud of? However, the struggles and nasty things are all to real for everyone as well. Yet, it doesn’t get the space and acknowledgment as much. As I am writing this, I realise that the past months the mind has been the focus of my yoga practice. Yoga is not all about practicing poses and movement, but on the mind as well. Or, I even believe that this is what makes yoga so powerful and what enables the healing effect.

Making Space for Practice

Practically, I sorted out my practice space to have my mind at ease while practicing. I wrote a blog post about how I did this and with some tips if you want to create one yourself. Read it here.

💙 my practice space 🙏 Consistent practice is a big part of finding healing. I think for any condition as well as scoliosis. But consistency it hard. Super hard. I try to make it easier by having a space that welcomes me every morning. This way it is harder to find excuses, because my space looks so inviting. Also having all my props ready to go simplifies the struggle of having a consistent practice. Would love to know how your space looks! Feel free to share it with me 🙏💛 #scoliyogi #yogaeveryday #yogaforscoliosis #scoliosis #bentnotbroken #scoliosisprobs #scoliosisawareness #scoliosissupport #balance #asana #rugpijn #yogaamsterdam #igyogafam #yogisofinstagram #yogaathome #instayoga #fitshe #fitfam #flexibility #namaste #practicedaily #practicespace #getonyourmat

Making Space for Practice

I have also been reading books about mindfulness and I try to incorporate it in my life. I have been noticing that a big struggle of mine is acknowledging my feelings. Not necessarily emotions, but more the feelings like being tired or stressed. I tend to want a whole lot and have a lot of ideas, which sometimes come in the way of what my body needs. But without my body I can’t function at my best. And to achieve my goals in life I need my body and mind at its best. Of course it can never be perfect, but I can at least try to listen and give my feelings some more space.
